Why Dysart School Board?

As an experienced social worker with 18 years of dedicated service to our community, I was compelled to address the critical issue facing our Dysart School District: the premature termination of contracts with school social workers. This decision has far-reaching implications for our students, educators, and the entire community.

Social workers play an indispensable role in our schools. Beyond mere providers of resources, we serve as advocates, mentors, and allies for students navigating the complexities of their personal and educational lives. With our expertise in mental health, crisis intervention, and community resources, social workers are uniquely positioned to address the diverse needs of our students and promote their overall well-being.

The decision to end contracts with school social workers not only deprives students of vital support systems but also places undue strain on our educators. Social workers collaborate closely with teachers and administrators to identify and address barriers to learning. We can facilitate access to essential services, and create a nurturing environment where all students can thrive. Without our presence, educators are left to shoulder additional responsibilities that detract from their primary focus: teaching.

The absence of social workers sends a concerning message about our priorities as a district. At such a critical time of brain development, the needs of students are more pronounced than ever, it is imperative that we invest in comprehensive support services that prioritize holistic development and foster a culture of empathy and inclusion.

If elected to the Dysart School Board, I will advocate for the reinstatement of social workers within our schools. I will work tirelessly to ensure that every student and educator has access to the resources and support they need to succeed. Together, we can reaffirm our commitment to the well-being of our schools, educators, students and the strength of our community.
